1/08 Meeting MinutesMeeting Date: January8, 2008 60th Anniversary of the CFMA President Robert Rockwell called the January meeting of the Association to order with a salute to the flag at 9:10 AM. Father Hyland led all attending in a prayer. A motion was made and Seconded to accept the report of the Secretary. Passed Treasurer Report: Checking; Savings; Total Assets $20,584.15 A motion was made and Seconded to accept the report of the Treasurer. Passed Correspondence: Secretary O’Hare stated that he is still getting undelivered emails due to bad addresses. If you have not received an email or know of a colleague that has not been receiving their emails please contact the Secretary at oharet@townoflitchfield.org . Sue Vaughn also volunteered to get the association any help with the email database that she could. Committee Reports Board of Directors: Chairman Art Higgins reported that the BOD discussed in length the Pros / Cons of bringing a lobbyist on Board. The BOD approved to send a recommendation to association to approve a contract with Powers for the amount of $24,000 to be paid in monthly installments of $2,000. Discussion was held on the possibility of going to a quarterly meeting schedule as a way of bolstering meeting attendance as well as cutting the meeting cost to the association. It was also agreed to recommend that the Association cancel the February 12, meeting as it falls on a holiday.
OSFM: John Blaschick wished all a Happy New year and reported that Joe Kingston was promoted to a supervisor position and will take over the Field Services section and Ralph Miller will cover all State owned buildings. John thanked Ralph for doing duel duty while the selection process was taking place. OEDM: Sue Vaughn reported that a Pre-certification class is to begin in February. The Code section will run in the spring and also be run in the fall. There will be a residential sprinkler conference in June. The Advanced Fire Investigator School will be sending out its’ notice sometime in February. The OEDM is closing out the 2007 year for fire reports and would appreciate it if all reporting agencies could send it their final tallies as soon as possible. The office is evaluating the way it changes the cycle dates for CEU requirements. Special Hazards: NO REPORT Membership: Jolynn Vanwart presented for membership: Codes and Standards: Mike Sinsigalli reported that a subcommittee is reviewing the proposed errata. “541” Committee: Mike Sinsigalli reported that the short break is over and the committee will begin meeting again on January 23rd and will be focusing on issues with the errata. The committee has some concerns with the Joint Modification Form. NFPA: Robert Duval reported that he is continuing to work with both the “541” and Fire Prevention Code committees. ICC: NO REPORT NEAFM: 1st Vice President Pat Tourville reported that section conferences are continuing and that more information can be obtained through their web page. Conference: Ralph Miller reported that the speakers are in place and is looking forward to an informative conference. Training Council: NO REPORT
Old Business Kevin Kowalski spent considerable time bringing the members present up to speed on the old issue of hiring a lobbyist. He and the legislative committee do not have the hours available to spend in Hartford and this year it is vital that we maintain a presence there. There was long discussion amongst the membership and it was motioned to follow the recommendation of the BOD to sign a contract for a period of 1 year with Powers. This was seconded and approved. The president was directed to sign the contact at his earliest convenience. New Business A motion was made and seconded to cancel the February 12, 2008 meeting. Passed Some discussion was held on relocating the meeting to Firehouses rather than canceling meetings. This will be addressed by the Board of Directors. Good of the Association President Rockwell thanked all for there continue support through attending meetings and hoped that this will continue as this will be a big legislative year for the Association. With no other business to come before the association a motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting. Passed. 10:21 AM.
