04/07 Meeting MinutesMeeting Date: May 7, 2007 60th Anniversary of the CFMA President McCarthy called the April meeting of the Association to order with a salute to the flag at 5:15 PM, Father Hyland led all in a short memorial remembering those that have passed away this year. A motion was made and seconded to accept the report of the secretary. Passed. Treasurer Francolini gave the following report: Checking Balance $8,152.83 Savings Total Association Assets $23,361.53
Committee Reports Board of Directors: Chairman Art Higgins welcomed all attending members and vendors. He thanked Peter Phalen for his outstanding work as well as his committee members. Art also thanked Megan and her officers for the work they performed for the association this year. OSFM: Wayne Maheu reported that the Cigarette Bill has passed the legislature, which a Fire Marshal will be able to retire his certification, Fire Marshals or Fire Chiefs will be able to send NFIRS to the state and the Building Officials will be allowed to keep 4 cents of the collected training fees. OEDM: Sue Vaughn thanked the CFMA for their support of the Advanced Fire Investigation School. Special Hazards: No Report Membership: Secretary O’Hare presented for 1st Reading: Motion was made and seconded to move the applications to New Business. Passed A motion was made and seconded to send to New Business the following names for Life Membership; William Kelly; George Ambriscoe; Peter Phalen; James Doherty. Passed Codes and Standards: No Report “541” Committee: Lee Cooke reported that the committee will addressing the errata. NFPA: Bob Duvall reported that the NFPA Conference will be June 3 – 7 2007 in Boston. ICC: No Report NEAFM: 2nd Vice Pat Tourville reminded everyone that the NEAFM maintains a website and look for the announcement of a possible trip to Tyco in November. NEAFM will have a booth at the upcoming NFPA meeting in Boston. Conference Committee: Peter Phalen thanked all of his committee members for an outstanding job on this year’s conference. He also recognized Lee Cooke and the Chief of the Milford Fire Department for their assistance, and finally Kathy for her fine work. Training Council: Joe Micalizzi again mentioned that the training council will be celebrating their 20th anniversary this year and would like to have a small ceremony at the October CFMA meeting Commission on Fire Prevention and Control: Jeff Morrisette reminded that membership of the vacancy on the Commission and recognized Dick Morris for his contribution to the Commission. . Old Business New Business A motion was made and seconded to grant Life Membership to William Kelly; George Ambriscoe; Peter Phalen; James Doherty. Passed A motion was made to have the new applications of Maximilian Aulet & Jonathan Hodes follow the normal course. Passed Election of Officers: President McCarthy requested nominations from the floor. The only Challenge to the nominating committee’s slate was the addition of Lee Cooke as 2nd Vice President. At this time it was requested that a single vote be cast for all but the 2nd Vice President position. This was approved by the membership. An election was held for the 2nd Vice President position. With 62 members present and eligible to vote, the final count was Don Dobson 12 Votes and Lee Cooke 49 Votes. Lee Cooke was declared the winner. President McCarthy congratulated the winners and thanked all of her officers and those that assisted her during her term as president. Good of the Association A motion was made and seconded to give $500 to the Thornburg Scholarship Fund. Passed. Motion was made and seconded to have the CFMA endorse RB114 which is an addition to the IRC to incorporate residential sprinkler systems into the next code cycle “2009” a long discussion followed. A long discussion was held on the adoption of F7 & F8 licenses for the installation of Residential Sprinklers. The members voted to endorse the licenses and will send a letter to the Commissioner. With no other business to come before the Association a motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting. Passed 6 PM The June meeting will be a Breakfast meeting at the Aqua Turf on June 12, 2007, it will begin at 8:30 AM with breakfast, please call the Southington Fire Marshals Office before June 11, 2007 , if you are planning to attend.
