07/07 Meeting MinutesMeeting Date: June 12, 2007 60th Anniversary of the CFMA President Rockwell called the June meeting of the Association to order with a salute to the flag at 8:30 AM, Father Hyland led all in a short opening prayer. A motion was made and seconded to suspend the meeting for breakfast. Passed The meeting was resumed at 9:10 AM. A short presentation was made to the winners of the Invention Convention; A plaque honoring Wayne Mahue was presented by President Rockwell. A motion was made and seconded to accept the report of the secretary. Passed. Treasurer Francolini gave the following report: Checking Balance 20,380.21 Savings Total Association Assets $34,588.91
Committee Reports Board of Directors: Chairman Art Higgins welcomed and congratulate all the winners of the Invention Convention. The Board discussed Wayne Mahue pending retirement, our Legislative Representative; the Associations Budget; the CFMA Conference; the July election of the BOD Officers. OSFM: Wayne Maheu reported that the changes to the State Building Code are technical changes OEDM: Sue Vaughn reported that a Code class will be starting in the fall and a few seats are available. Special Hazards: No Report Membership: Secretary O’Hare presented for 2nd Reading: Motion was made and seconded to move the applications to Old Business. Passed Codes and Standards: James Doherty reported that the appeals are getting fewer in number and still reminds Fire Marshals that they should make every effort to attend their hearings. “541” Committee: John Jackman reported that the committee will be addressing the errata. Discussions are being held on the new smoke emitting security systems that are being used in the CVS drug chain. This will be addressed in the errata. Mike Sinsigalli will be going to the ICC hearings as our representative. NFPA: 1st Vice President Patrick Tourville reported that at the NFPA Conference carbon Bottles in NFPA 58 was shot down. ICC: No Report NEAFM: 2nd Vice Pat Tourville reminded everyone that the NEAFM maintains a website and look for the announcement of a possible trip to Tyco in November. Conference Committee: Past President Megan McCarthy reported that the committee will be meeting next week to prepare a final report on the Conference Training Council: No Report Commission on Fire Prevention and Control: No Report NFPA 1: John Jackman reported that all chapters have been reviewed and draft changes are being reviewed. The new draft is scheduled to go to legislative review by August. Old Business New Business A motion to grant a stipend in the amount of $1,500 for both the treasurer and secretary was made and seconded. Passed
Good of the Association John Ducette brought to the floor the idea that we budget for the awarding of an annual scholarship on behalf of the association. After much discussion it was decided to have the Board of Directors discuss the issue. Our website is up to date. We will be removing any financial information for past and future meeting minutes. Darrin Cooke has been assigned to the UCONN campus as a special representative. There are 3 new members to the OSFM Staff and will be reporting to Ralph Miller. The Fire Safe Cigarette law will not take effect till 2008 to allow for the depletion of the manufactures current stocks. There was no amendment to the ICC residential code for the requirement of home sprinklers. President Rockwell thanked all the former Association Officers and is looking forward to working with the current officers. With no other business to come before the Association a motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting.
